a dialogue on club culture as pedagogy, contributed to a book asking what an institute for nightculture might be. it explores how to teach the social and political value of club spaces – community, solidarity, emancipation. it examines the tension between institutionalising cultures that are underground and urgent by nature, and keeping what makes them vital. it proposes how club culture might thrive: community-owned, cooperatively managed sound systems and dance halls, and celebration treated as serious pedagogy — a rehearsal for liberation. the answer to institutional legibility is education: to study and teach club spaces as sites of joy, care and shared imagination.
